Li Weiwei, a former senior national political advisor, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office for serious violations of disciplines and laws, the country's top anti-corruption authorities said on Friday.

Li, former deputy head of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment with the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, had failed to implement the central leadership's policies regarding CPPCC affairs and united front work, according to an investigation led by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.

Li was discovered to have accepted illegal gifts, money, banquets, as well as selected and appointed cadres improperly, the commissions said, adding that she had also neglected and failed to discipline her family members and involved them in corruption acts.

In addition, Li was found to have taken advantage of her position to seek benefits for others in project contracting, business operations and job adjustments, and obtained large sums of money and properties through this means, the commissions noted.

"Li has severely violated the Party disciplines, which constitutes into severe violation of duty, and she has been suspected of bribery," said the commissions. "Her misconduct is of serious nature and has resulted in adverse impact, and should be dealt with severely," they said.

Subsequently, the commissions added that they made the decision to remove her from the Party and public office.

They also noted that they have confiscated all of her illicit gains. Her suspected violations of the national laws, along with her illegal belongings, have been transferred to prosecutors for further investigation.

Public information shows that Li, a 66-year-old native of Hunan province, started her career in 1975 and joined the Party in 1976.

She had been working in Hunan for a long time, serving in various important positions, including director of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade's branch in Hunan, head of the provincial united front work department and head of the commission for political and legal affairs of the CPC Hunan provincial committee.
