An immersive exhibition showcasing the ancient city of Niya and the culture of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region of China, the first of its kind in the world, will take place at the Alight Room Lafayette Culture Space in Shanghai from Jan 25 to Jul 25.

Seven Days of the Cad'ota, the exhibition will showcase more than 100 cultural relic objects from the Xinjiang Museum. The replica of a treasured arm guard from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) embroidered with Chinese characters that translate as "the five planets appeared in the eastern sky, benefiting the central plains", will be among the exhibits.

The ancient city of Niya is located in the Taklamakan Desert, about 115 kilometers north to today's Niya city in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. It was named Cad'ota in the local language and Jingjue in Chinese, and used to be a thriving oasis city and an important commercial center on the ancient Silk Road.

The upcoming exhibition will integrate digital art, interactive theater experience, virtual reality and other cutting-edge technologies, to create an unprecedented experience about the culture and history of Xinjiang. Jiushi Art Museum will be providing academic support for the show.
