Sichuan official stands trial for bribery, firearms and ammunition possession

Yang Kening, a former senior political advisor in Southwest China's Sichuan province, stood trial on Thursday on charges of bribery and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Yang was accused of accepting bribes of over 72.23 million yuan ($9.9 million) between 2003 and 2023 by the people's procuratorate of Nantong, Jiangsu province.

During his tenure in various positions, including former Party member and vice-chairman of the CPPCC Sichuan provincial committee, Yang allegedly provided assistance to individuals and entities in securing project contracts and advancing business operations, according to the report.

Yang was also accused of illegally obtaining and storing firearms and ammunition from 2008 to 2010 at his residence, it said.

In his final statement in court, Yang admitted guilt and expressed remorse, it added.

The court will announce the verdict at a later date.
