On Nov 20, the State Grid Bortala Power Supply Company organized its employees to visit the construction site of the 100,000 kilowatt heat storage solar thermal power project with an additional 900,000 kilowatt new energy project in Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture. They took the initiative to assist customers with eliminating defects and accelerating the operation of the "pursuing sunlight" project in Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture.

The project belongs to the second batch of market-oriented grid-connected new energy projects in the region in 2022. It has a total installed capacity of one million kilowatts and a total investment of 6.2 billion yuan ($856 million). Currently, the photovoltaic part, with an installed capacity of 900,000 kilowatts and two supporting booster and collection stations, have completed construction and started the project acceptance. The 100,000 kilowatt solar thermal power generation phase has entered the final stage of civil construction. The procurement of major equipment has been completed, and it is gradually entering the equipment installation stage.

To ensure that grid connection work of the project is carried out smoothly, the company established a "one-stop" service workstation for the grid connection of new energy in Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture. An internal and external responsible person mechanism was set up, responsibilities for grid connection services was assigned to individuals, implemented "one-on-one" tracking services, followed up on the project progress in a timely manner, and extended guidance to solve the problems encountered by the new energy power stations during the grid connection process. During the acceptance process, the professional backbones in the fields of substation maintenance, metering, power dispatching and control of the company went deep into the front line. They conducted meticulous inspections on various equipment such as the type selection, structure, secondary wiring and relay protection devices of the primary equipment in the new energy power stations, and provided face-to-face guidance on the power transmission plans in the later stage as well as the operation and maintenance regulations.

"This project is the largest new energy project under construction in Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture. The solar thermal power station is the first of its kind in Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture. Different from photovoltaic power generation, solar thermal power generation doesn't have the characteristics that it can't generate electricity at night and its power generation volume is affected by weather changes. It has the advantages of continuity and stability in power generation, as well as a short start-up time, deep peak regulation depth and low start-up and shutdown costs," introduced Li Juan, the supervisor of the Mode Planning Office of the Power Dispatching and Control Center of the company. "After the project is put into operation, it can relieve the peak regulation pressure on the power grid, further enhance the new energy transmission capacity of the Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture power grid and improve the power supply capacity of the Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture power grid during the evening peak period."

It is reported that the photovoltaic part of the project is expected to be put into operation in December. By then, the installed capacity of new energy in the Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture power grid will exceed 3 million kilowatts. The solar thermal part is planned to be put into operation in the first half of 2025. After it is put into operation, it can provide a guaranteed power supply of 100,000 kilowatts, effectively enhancing the power supply capacity of the power grid during the evening peak period. After the whole project is put into operation, the annual electricity volume connected to the grid will reach 2.04 billion kilowatt-hours. Every year, it can save about 620,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.69 million tons.
